SomniSense is not a medical device

SomniSense is a wellness and self-monitoring tool. It is not a diagnostic device. It does not diagnose sleep apnea, OSA (obstructive sleep apnea), CSA (central sleep apnea), or any other medical condition.

The Breathing Irregularity Index (BRI) reported by SomniSense is the same per-hour event-rate metric clinicians call AHI in medical literature. SomniSense's BRI is informational data — not a clinical diagnosis.

What SomniSense does

  • Detects snoring sounds and breathing irregularities from microphone audio using on-device AI.
  • Reports per-event timestamps, duration, and replayable audio.
  • Tracks tagged factors (alcohol, side-sleep, etc.) over time to surface patterns in YOUR data.
  • Delivers Doctor-Ready Cadence™ briefings — organized summaries you can bring to a clinic visit.

What SomniSense does not do

  • Does not diagnose sleep apnea or any other condition.
  • Does not replace a licensed clinician's evaluation.
  • Does not replace an in-lab polysomnography (PSG) or Type-III home sleep apnea test (HSAT).
  • Does not provide medical advice, treatment recommendations, or prescriptions.
  • Has not been validated for users under 18.

When to consult a clinician

If your BRI is consistently above 15 events per hour (the same threshold clinicians use for AHI), if your partner observes prolonged breathing pauses, or if you experience excessive daytime sleepiness, please consult a board-certified sleep specialist for a clinical evaluation.

SomniSense data — your tagged nights, your audio clips, your trend — can be a useful starting point for that visit, but it is not a substitute for clinical assessment.

Validation context

SomniSense's detection algorithm was validated against in-lab polysomnography in our internal study (n=70+ paired nights): snoring detection sensitivity 91% / precision 98.5%, breathing irregularity sensitivity 80% / precision 91%, BRI agreement with clinical AHI within ±5 events/hour for 87% of nights at AHI ≤ 30. Peer-reviewed publication and US patent application are in active preparation. See /accuracy for full methodology.

Emergency disclaimer

SomniSense is not for medical emergencies. If you or someone else is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 (United States) or your local emergency services immediately.
